Belmont University
Mike Curb College of Entertainment and Music Business
All his life, David encouraged others to pursue music and has a family connection to Belmont and to family musicians/singer/songwriters. Chris Newton, husband of David’s niece Sarah (Galliher), and Maddy Steen, Lori’s great niece, attended Belmont. All are such talented musicians, singers and writers.
Since 1971, the heart of music row has flowed through Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee. Beginning with a Music Business program designed to prepare young men and women for operational, administrative, creative, and technical careers in the music industry, Belmont has expanded its degree programs to encompass all aspects of the entertainment industry. The Mike Curb College of Entertainment and Music Business was established in 2003 and is one of today's world leaders in music business and entertainment industry education. They offer a range of degree programs, including Songwriting (B.A. or B.S.).
Brad Paisley, Trisha Yearwood, Steven Curtis Chapman…
The Mike Curb College of Entertainment and Music Business has been training students in business careers specific to the entertainment industry for three decades, and the list of successful alumni is quite impressive! There are quite a few notable the alumni who have become highly successful performers, including Brad Paisley, Trisha Yearwood, and Steve Curtis Chapman. While they are successful performers, they obtained their Bachelor of Business Administration Degree from the college, which does not require any musical skills.

Belmont is proud to claim some of the most successful names in the industry as their own, as documentation of a proven track record in the industry, and they aim to provide their music students with the tools needed to fulfill their dreams and add them to the list of successful alumni. The College has numerous undergraduate programs including several dedicated expressly to the art of songwriting. For those who are interested, click here to learn more about Mike Curb.

David was also a strong supporter of education. He was an active member of The Community Academy Board of Directors, helping with anything asked of him at the drop of a hat. He was just beginning a new chapter of his professional life as a certified teacher, after finishing a teacher certification program in 2020. He had served as a substitute teacher in Central Iowa for several school districts. David cared deeply for children and the quality of life they lived. In his teaching roles he would get to know students well and persistently advocated on students’ behalf. He will be remembered for his passion, his kindness, and his ability to think outside the box.
The mission of The Community Academy (TCA) is to engage young people in authentic educational experiences that enrich our community and promote a sense of place in nature. TCA envisions an educational model in which students form deep, meaningful relationships with staff, students, the community, the environment, and themselves.
